2018 BMW X3 Seems Going to Launch Soon

2018 BMW X3 launching date seems getting near judging by the fact that the car was spotted in several places around the world sometime ago. Fortunately, the spy shots which come to surface give us preview of what’s next in the upcoming BMW X3. Although we cannot clearly see its new body thanks to the camouflage, but we can tell that the all new X3 gets evolutionary design on the outside and of course we can expect the cabin has the same story. The design is a bit familiar though however we can tell that the hardware is going to be completely different than previous model. Below is more review about its design and specifications.

2018 BMW X3 exterior design will be less in weight

2018 BMW X3

Over the past months there have been several BMW X3 test mule around the world and several spy photos has been captured. It seems the automaker engineers trying to test its performance and capability plus its adaptability to extreme weather and many terrain conditions in several places. Thanks to its spy photos, we can see that the maker keeps its compact design and proportions which differentiate the car from the rest of the X family. The front part getting a bit more upright compared than the last model because the design need to be adjusted with the new pedestrian safety rules. While on the rear part featured a lower roofline than the outgoing car as well with a one piece yet stunning tailgate.

Most interesting change which should become the highlight of this car is about the weight. Rumors said that the maker decided to shave off a serious amount of weight in order to reduce its fuel consumption as well as to give a better performance. Many said it will be 100 kilograms lighter than the last X3 and it will be based on versatile CLAR platform. Meanwhile, it is expected that the vehicle has larger dimensions to enhance cabin comfortability and boost capacity. You may see the car design is a bit more muscular than the past generations judging by all these changes.

However, overall design of 2018 BMW X3 does not change that much, it still gives us familiar look with a slight evolution from the current version. The cluster headlight appears fancier than ever due to the installation of LED lamps and DRLs. The SUV also have wider taillights and even it extend to the tailgate makes it looks sportier and modern.

Roomier and wider cabin for the next 2018 BMW X3

Judging by the look of the exterior design which getting bigger, then the inside must be a lot of roomier and wider. The cabin comfortability is slightly improved making it a more premium than before, the redesigned X3 will be equipped with bunch of high tech and safety features as well. From the spy shots photos, we can get a glimpse of what is X3 interior design looks like and apparently the dashboard unveiled a newly design instrument panel which combine digital and analog gauges and it seems they take design inspiration from the BMW 5 series. However, there is no official confirmation whether all these new specs are going to be offered as standard on all trims or just several upper trims.

Another nice thing to take a note is the free standing infotainment system which installed right on a top of a bit angled towards central console, as the outgoing model of both X3 and X4 tend to have the screen inside a dashboard. Moreover, the layout for AC and audio controls remain the same thus even though there is slightly makeover move from the automaker for X3 cabin, you will stay familiar to be inside this mid-SUV. It is also expected that the cabin gets high quality materials and fabrics. Anyway, with more space for 2018 BMW X3 interior and all these great specifications attached, you can expect a nice driving experience.

Drive train and more: New RWD modular system has been built

This 3rd generation BMW X3 is built with the new RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) flexible modular system to ensure a great comfortability, performance, and variability. Rumors said that X3 will be offered with 2 engine options: diesel and petrol engine. Moreover, BMW nicely confirm to fans that the new X3 will be featured electric vehicle which going to launch not soon but in 2020, more info about this will come later.

As for both diesel and petrol engine, it seems they are ranging from 2.0 L turbo-four Diesel Units (B47) to 3.0 L turbo inline-six diesel Units (B57) and petrol unit (B58). Rumors said that these units will be more powerful about 15 horsepower higher than the current model. In addition, a plug-in hybrid has rumored will be available as well. Unfortunately, so far no more information about its performance or whether those 2018 BMW X3 engine options are really going to be attached for this next generation X’s car, well, it seems we need to wait longer till the due date.

2018 BMW X3 released date and price

It is expected that 2018 BMW X3 will be released this year and rumors said it will enter production in August 2017 then hit the Europe market a month later in November along with US market that rumored to get this car sometime in early 2018. This car is expected to be debuted in Frankfurt Motor Show. Production of the car will take place in South Carolina, United States (Spartanburg factory) and South Africa (Rosslyn plant). The production of the new X3 in Africa plant apparently will replace the BMW 3 Series sedan which going to be allocated in different plant. As for the price, we predicted that it may not be priced much higher than the last version so maybe it will start around $42,000.

If 2018 BMW X3 really wants to compete with its competitors including new generation Audi Q5, Jaguar F-Pace, Volvo XC60, and Mercedes-Benz GLE, then it needs to seriously offer something new, fresh, and different from the rest of those same segment cars. It should be equipped with full blown specifications and designs and judging by the bigger cabin, high technologies, and new platform that attached on this SUV, we are going to see that this car will at least manage to run against those upcoming vehicles fairly.
