2018 Ford Escape Review on the New Design Update and Specification

2018 Ford Escape as the compact SUV crossover from Ford is loved by many people. That is why fans are excitingly waiting for the new 2018 model year which may get some remodeling to make it more stylish.

First comes out in the year of 2000, Ford Escape coming out as a join product made by both Mazda and Ford, on the Mazda side it is sold as Tribute brand. However, those two cars are not similar to each other, in fact the only similarity that they have is only on the roof and on the floor pressing.

2018 Ford Escape

In seventeen years of development Escape already has three generations so far. European and China market knows the first generation as the Maverick. While for the second generation is coming out in the year of 2018 and it is known as Ford Kuga for global market outside the North America market.

The third and current generation start a while ago in the year of 2013. And in 2017 Ford give facelift to Escape’s appearance to make it look fresh so it can still compete in the market. And now as the 2018 model year comes, we cannot expect too many changes happen after what Ford have done to previous model year. If you want to see major changes, then you might want to wait for the 2019 model year to come. But now let us see the detail for 2018 model year of Escape which will be launch soon.

2018 Ford Escape Exterior

For the exterior, 2018 model year they might use design from 2013 Ford Fusion which is the blue oval design. The dimension and sizing of this car would not be changes. However, they will use sport bumper and then to spice up the front area they will also use large size grille.

For the headlights they will use sleeker design which will be support with lines that make it look like Ford Edge design. The lines will look aggressive, however because of the bumper and styling selection, Escape will look sporty rather than aggressive.

Even though Ford does not do too many experiment on the 2018 model year, they will give Escape a new and larger taillight appearance which will make the look more appealing. This make the rear view of the car appear more attractive without even doing too much.

For S trim, they will use black exterior color option with steel wheel in 17 inches size. The SE trim will use alloy wheel in 17 inches size, while the Titanium will use 18 inches size instead.

For Titanium and SE trim, you can get features such as exterior fillips, door handles with the same color as the body color, dual tips chrome exhaust, LED taillamp, and privacy glass on the rear side.

There is also option to get the sport appearance for Titanium and SE trim which first included in 2017 model year. That option will add more features such as body trim in black theme, alloy wheel in 19 inches size, front bucket extra supportive seats which upholstered using stitched white cloth and leather material.

It is predicted that the there will be a new trim which will go towards luxurious trims option with features that is much higher than the current Titanium trim. However they might need to remember to maintain certain limit as to not overcome their own Lincoln MKC brand which basically is an upgraded and much luxurious crossover version of Ford Escape which will also get new design for the 2019 and 2020 model year.

2018 Ford Escape Interior

Inside, Ford might spice things up a bit for the 2018 model year. They will use more modern style with high quality material. As the interior is already restyled on the 2017 model year, they might use most of the previous design on this model year. Especially for the steering wheel which has classy design that is restyled on 2017 model year.

The center control will become more spacious as the transmission shifter will be designed to be less intrusive. High technology will also be used on the parking brake which will replace the old lever with a button to start the function.

The headspace for Escape is already known to be the best in its class; sadly the legroom for rear occupant is not doing great. The cargo space is also falling in the middle class rather than great.

2018 Ford Escape Engine

For the basic engine, 2018 model year will use the same two engines from the previous model year. There will only be automatic transmission with six speed option on all engines with default FWD drivetrain and AWD option for several trims which will cost around $1,750.

The first basic engine option which available on the S trim is the four cylinder engine with 2.5 liter capacity which will be able to produce 168 HP as well as 170 lb ft of torque. For the fuel economy EPA rating, it will be on 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.

The second basic engine option which available on the Titanium and SE trims is the four cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine with 1.5 liter capacity which will be able to produce 179 HP as well as 177 lb ft of torque. For the fuel economy EPA rating, it will be on 23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined on the FWD drivetrain and it will be on 22 mpg city, 38 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined on the AWD drivetrain.

The third engine will be an optional engine on the Titanium and SE trims which will cost around $1,295. It is the four cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine with 2.0 liter capacity which will be able to produce 245 HP as well as 275 lb ft of torque. For the fuel economy EPA rating, it will be on 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined on the FWD drivetrain and it will be on 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined on the AWD drivetrain.

The previous two generation always includes hybrid engine, however the third generation change all that and not include it anymore. If there is no other change in that decision, then for the 2018 model year, we would not see any hybrid engine option too.

2018 Ford Escape Price and Release Date

For the 2018 model year, there might be some increase on the pricing even though it would not be that much different from the previous model year. The basic S trim will cost around $24,800. The second SE trim will start around $26,200 while the third Titanium trim will start around $30,200. Of course, that is only the standard price, but if you include other option such as AWD, upgraded engine or the sport package then there will be slight changes on the price. We expect Ford to start the production of 2018 Ford Escape around August this year, and then it will be available in the showroom around September this year.

Conclusion

All in all, there is not much different from this 2018 Ford Escape which makes it similar to the previous release. If you can be patient waiting for it, then it is ok to wait for the release.
