2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar buyers will have a choice between three engines. The standard one will be a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0 litre engine capable of providing 247hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The manufacturer claims this engine will get the Velar to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. The second option boasts greater efficiency and will be four cylinder turbocharged 2.0 litre diesel engine with 180hp and a 317 lb-ft of torque. The last option will be V6 supercharged 3.0 litre engine that cranks out 380hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The car can hit 60mph within 5.3 seconds with this engine.
Featuring 8 speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the Velar delivers a responsive drive with exhilarating performance and speed no matter the type of engine. The gearbox works through the gears smoothly and efficiently. In addition, the SUV is expected to have a top speed of between 130mph and 155mph but Land Rover is yet to confirm the truth behind these claims.

The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar comes in three engine options with a very powerful drivetrain. One runs on diesel and the other two on petrol. Being all-wheel drive SUV, it is expected to offer great driving stability both off-road and on-road. At the front, it features a double wishbone suspension that delivers both stability and stiffness. This makes it a quick and agile car. It also features multi-link suspension on the rear that makes it quite hardy and rugged. In addition, the car is expected to navigate well in water, rocks, washboard roads, steep and dirty surfaces. As such, it may feel distinctly more like a Range Rover and decidedly less car like.

The exterior of the new Velar is based more on the new F-Pace Jaguar model. It features a slick body design with its headlights modelled inside oval shaped LED headlamps for a solid glow. Simple but elegant, if any rugged SUV can be described as elegant, it is the Velar. It spots a long clamshell hood with an assertive and powerful sloping rear thereby giving it a solid stance.
Details like 113.1 inch wheelbase, deployable door handles, flush, LED taillights, lower roof, alloy wheels and Xenon headlights give this SUV a unique and beautiful look. Therefore, anywhere you go in the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar, eyes will definitely follow you. What’s more, it is expected to offer various exterior trim packages including different wheel designs and sizes ranging from 18 inches to 22 inches.

2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar’s interior looks attractive and modern with incredible seating allowance. It can therefore accommodate five passengers comfortably. Offered in multiple finishes, colours, headliners and upholsteries, its cabin exudes simplicity and elegance. The standard material used is premium leather that provides a suppler look and feel. The driver’s seat is tailored with comfortable headrest and a variety of functionalities like heated rear, massage and memory.
With soft and high quality Windsor leather across the steering wheel, and the doors, Land Rover combines authentic materials and finishes. The steering wheel features touch sensitive controls whilst the dashboard on the other hand integrates a HD monitor and four polished metal air vents. And that’s not all. The manufacturer is set to include ambient interior lighting. Split sliding armrests as well as ample head and legroom for rear riders. Cargo capacity is also expected to be equally generous with the rear seat being foldable to create more space for luggage.
The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar chassis feature a modified version of the Jaguar F-Pace model. It is made of lightweight aluminium material that has been further reinforced for greater off-road capabilities. You will also find some parts made from carbon fibre with copper wire-weave. Its wide wheel base is of course an added advantage for those looking for optimal stability in all terrains.
Velar comes with standard 18 inches’ alloy wheels while giving you the option to choose between 19, 20, 21 and 22 inches’ wheels for better performance on off-road. Tuned more like a sports car rather than all-terrain SUV, this car has a dashing design Everything from the grille mesh, the hood, fender vent and rear tow-eye cover are all built from high quality materials that make it stand out from the herd.
2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Safety Technology
Like the previous Land Rover models, the Velar is also expected to utilize a range of safety features. From premium LED headlights to rear view camera, blind spot screening, adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert and automatic braking, this SUV will be coming with a suite of safety technologies. The Velar is said to have the option of adding more equipment package for added safety.
*Rear Parking Sensors
With the new Velar, you get rear parking sensors for clear visibility thereby making parking very easy and swift. Drivers can therefore easily manoeuvre large vehicles into tight spaces, park in adverse weather conditions as well as where there are cyclists and pedestrians. No need to worry that you might ram your vehicle into an obstacle.
*Six Airbags System
The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar will feature a total of six drive and passenger airbags. There will be a rear body airbag, rear head airbag, side airbag, passenger airbag, side head airbag and rear airbag. So, in case of a serious accident, every passenger in the car will be safe including the driver. The passenger airbag is said to feature an ON/OFF switch in case you wish to disable the airbag because you’re riding with a child. The only downside is that it lacks knee airbags like some of its top rivals.
*Automatic Emergency Braking System
This system is designed to detect any impending forward crash with another car. In case it detects in time, it prevents or mitigate the crash. But before it takes the necessary measures to prevent the crash, it first warns the driver. Where the drive delays to respond, the system then automatically applies the braking system to help prevent or reduce the severity of a crash. It is also built to detect when the driver applies the brakes quickly but does not apply enough force needed to maximize the stopping performance. So, it not only has the potential of saving so many lives but also to reduce the less severe crashes common on the roadways.
In the event of a very severe frontal impact, airbags are not enough to keep you safe. The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar therefore has built-in seat belts that work in conjunction with the Supplementary Restrain System (SRS). The system reduces any slack automatically in a seat belt to minimize forward movement of both the front seat and third row-seat occupant. This will ensure extra protection.
*Lane Departure Warning
Sometimes it is possible drift too close to the edges of your lane unintentionally when driving on highways or rural roadways. With lane departures accounting for nearly a third of all fatal crashes, this feature has the potential to mitigate the number of fatalities. Fortunately, the Velar is expected to feature some sensors to alert you anytime it detects the car drifting from the lanes. What is not clear is whether the alerts will be via an audio, vibrating or visual warning. All we could hope is that the alerts will be in the form of audio like it is with most of Land Rover’s other SUV’s models.
*Blind Spot Monitor
It is common for drivers to swerve into another vehicle not visible to them. That is why the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is said to incorporate the Blind Spot monitor. The monitor uses cameras to watch around the Velar and look for other vehicles that might be nearby. It then alerts the driver.
*LATCH and Driving Systems
The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar boasts LATCH points in the rear seats. This feature comes in handy when you wish to install child seats. It also ensures there is sturdy connection between the vehicle and child seat for extra safety. Not to mention, the Velar is also expected to utilize Electronic Traction Control (ETC) driver assistant technology for improved traction. It will also feature Electronic Brake Force Distribution technology that determines braking force to automatically reduce stopping distance.
With exceptional highway/on-road capabilities as well as very exciting off-road dynamics, the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is expected to offer a lot of versatility. At a glance, you will notice that the car’s sportiness and on-road performance are the main priorities. The car spacious and comfortable seating area, new safety technologies, better towing capacity and Terrain Response technology further enhances its performance. Worth mentioning, is its cockpit that is more driver focused with the seating position being lower than Land Rover vehicle. The manufacturer claims this luxurious and high tech SUV will be competing with top rivals like Jaguar F-Pace XE models, but only time will tell if that is indeed true or not.
